I've been in a theater when a trailer for Pillion played probably about half a dozen times now, and it always gets a delighted, giggly reaction from the audience, which is exactly what I saw in comments online when it first came out -- people delighted by the playful sexiness of it. Even straight dudes. It just looks fun and funny.

The fact that that's true, but it also simultaneously does feel self-evident (as you pointed out) that the movie couldn't get made at an American studio right now—or would at least face steep headwinds—kinda makes you think about the gap between what audiences want, and what studios want to make, in theatrical film right now.
